Mahé Island is the largest and most culturally central island in the Seychelles, home to the capital city of Victoria and the majority of the country’s population. Its history reflects layers of African, European, and Asian influence, shaped by centuries of maritime trade and colonial rule. This blend is visible in everyday life, from architecture and language to food and festivals, giving Mahé a distinctly Creole identity. The island’s landscape is surprisingly varied. Granite mountains rise steeply from the coast, covered in dense tropical forest, while narrow roads wind past waterfalls, spice gardens, and hidden coves. Mahé’s beaches range from long, open stretches to small, sheltered bays framed by dramatic rock formations. Inland, Morne Seychellois National Park protects a large portion of the island, offering trails with sweeping views over the ocean and neighboring islands. |

Nestled between the verdant Moka Range and the Indian Ocean, this city invites visitors to explore its rich colonial past while embracing the dynamic energy of a thriving port town. The Caudan Waterfront is a must-visit, where you can stroll along the marina, shop at chic boutiques, and indulge in local Mauritian cuisine. The city’s diverse heritage is also evident in its architecture and places of worship. The Jummah Mosque, a beautiful example of Indo-Islamic architecture, offers a serene retreat from the city's hustle and bustle. Nearby, the St. Louis Cathedral and the Kwan Tee Pagoda showcase the religious tolerance and multicultural fabric of Port Louis. A visit to the Central Market, also known as the Bazaar of Port Louis, is a sensory delight where you can immerse yourself in the local life, sampling exotic fruits, spices, and artisanal crafts. Fun Fact: The name “Port Louis” was given in honor of King Louis XV of France, under whose reign the city was developed as a key port during the 18th century. Durban is a big subtropical city in the north-eastern province of KwaZulu/Natal. It has been a major port since the 1850s and is home to the largest concentration of Indian-descended people in the country - Mohandas Gandhi arrived here as an indentured labourer in 1893. Today the city is better known as a holiday-makers' fun parlour with a happening nightlife. The weather (and the water, thanks to the Agulhas current) stays warm year-round drawing the crowds to Durban's long string of surf beaches. Apart from the sandy strip, 'Durbs' has a fair bit to offer. The impressive city hall houses an art gallery which has a good collection of contemporary South African works and a patchy natural science museum. Also in the city centre, the local history museum has interesting displays on colonial life and the African Art Centre features exciting work by rural artists. The Indian area, to the west of the city centre, has a bustle and vibrancy that's missing from most commercial districts in South Africa. The Victoria Street Market is the area's focus, but other must sees are the Juma Mosque, the largest in the southern hemisphere, and the Alayam Hindu Temple, South Africa's oldest and biggest. Cape Town, located at the southern tip of South Africa, is one of the world’s most striking coastal cities. Towering over it is Table Mountain, a flat-topped landmark that can be reached by cable car or on foot, offering sweeping views of the city, ocean, and beyond. At the base of the mountain lies a lively cityscape where modern life blends with rich heritage, from historic neighborhoods to bustling markets and vibrant art galleries. The coastline surrounding Cape Town is just as remarkable. Camps Bay and Clifton Beach draw visitors with golden sands and turquoise waters, while Cape Point, part of Table Mountain National Park, showcases dramatic cliffs where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. A short drive away, Boulders Beach is home to a thriving colony of African penguins, providing a close-up encounter with these charming seabirds. Cape Town is also a gateway to South Africa’s wine country. Nearby Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl are renowned for their vineyards and estates, where visitors can enjoy tastings paired with local cuisine. Back in the city, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront offers a lively hub of restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions, including the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, which highlights artists from across the continent. History runs deep in Cape Town. Robben Island, a short ferry ride from the harbor, was once a prison where Nelson Mandela and other political leaders were held.
